Write For Your Audience

Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.

As a business analyst almost everything you do needs to be communicated to someone.

Everyone has different agendas, learning styles, and needs

Executives don’t want the details.

Developers don’t want the generalities

Once you have the understanding you want to convey ask yourself:

  • Who is the audience?
  • What do they need to understand?
  • What questions do they want to be answered?
  • How will they best receive the information?

Understanding your audience and their motives will make you a better communicator.
