Thinking Outside the Box

To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.
Anthony Robbins

A business analyst needs to be aware of limiting their thinking based on understanding the current state.

Initially, on most projects, the first task is to get a good understanding of the current state. By understanding what the current state is and understanding and empathizing with the stakeholders we may buy into their way of thinking. We are eliciting what they feel are the problems and issues and the potential solutions.

Once we have this current state understanding a business analyst needs to take a step back and look at the whole with a fresh, objective perspective. Understanding that we may have an attachment to ideas and solutions we have elicited will help us overcome those.

A business analyst needs to learn the skill of looking at things from many different perspectives and with many different hats.
