PKM Principle – Differentiate Facts from Interpretation

The most important tactic in an argument next to being right is to leave an escape hatch for your opponent so that he can gracefully swing over to your side without an embarrassing loss of face.
Stephen Jay Gould

An important part of your personal body of knowledge (PBOK) is to separate your notes into facts and interpretations.

Facts are those understandings that you know 100% are true. Notes about experiences you have had are factual notes. Notes interpreting your experiences are interpretations. Statistics are facts, how you understand the statistics are interpretations.

Your interpretations should always be supported by facts. The more facts that support your interpretations the more likely the interpretations are true.

For my PBOK I will tag notes with hashtag facts where I know the note is a fact note. All other notes are interpretations.
