Why or Purpose

There are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why.
William Barclay

Your “Why” and your “Purpose” are two different things.

Your “Why” answers the question of why you are living the life you are living.

Your “Purpose” answers the question of how you live your life.

Your “Why” is what motivates you and gives you a reason to pursue your purpose.

Your purpose is based on the combination of what you are good at and what you love to do.

You can always go to a deeper level on your purpose. An NHL hockey player may think his purpose is to play hockey. Hockey is just one way he can live his purpose. Those gifts that allow him to play hockey can be used in many different ways. Maybe his gift is striving to be the best. That striving can be applied in other areas as well. For professional athletes, the competitive part of their career is short. After their career, they need to find a new way to use the gifts they have.

Finding your “Why” is important as your why will drive you forward.

Finding your “Purpose” is important as living based on your purpose will allow you to make the most of who you are. Your purpose is your unique value, your way of being most effective in the world.

The purpose of a bird is to fly. Give a bird the opportunity to fly and he will soar. Put a bird in the water and he will struggle.

Live the Adventure
