Starting a New Habit

Humans are creatures of habit. If you quit when things get tough, it gets that much easier to quit the next time. On the other hand, if you force yourself to push through it, the grit begins to grow in you.

The steps for creating a new habit

  1. Determine the habit you want to create. Be clear exactly how the new habit fits into your life.
  2. Determine the schedule for the new habit.
  3. Determine your motivation for creating the habit in your life. It is important to write this step down so that you internalize the importance of the habit in your life.
  4. Track your habit. Tracking your habit helps to see your progress in creating the habit. Once the habit starts to take hold, the gamification of tracking will give you additional motivation to keep doing the habit.
  5. Continually review the tracking to learn about yourself and to install the motivation for your habit.

Following these steps not only helps you instill new habits, but it also creates an overall process for instilling any new habits in your life.
