For any new process, the first step is determining how you will measure how well the process is working
To do this you need to determine the outcome you are trying to achieve.
Determining the outcomes is an excellent opportunity to apply the 5-why’s technique.
Ask yourself what is the outcome you are trying to achieve. Add why to this answer to create another question. Repeat this process 5 times.
Doing this exercise will get you to the core why of the process. Knowing the why means you can now measure how well the process is working towards that why. Having the metrics in place first allows you to design a process that effectively gets you to the why.
