Internal Values Versus External Values

A highly developed values system is like a compass. It serves as a guide to point you in the right direction when you are lost.

Internal values define who you are as a person. They are the traits and attributes that you feel are important for you as an individual to have. When you are living up to your internal values you are living as the person you want to be.

People who live their internal values come across as genuine, real, and congruent. The person they are is driven by their internal values.

External values are the experiences you value in life. Even for possessions that you value, it is the experience of that possession that you value.

It is your external values that give you drive. Your external values define your life goals and give you something to pursue.

Internal values without external values are like a Lamborghini parked in a garage.

External values without internal values are like driving to your destination in an old clunker.

When you strive to live up to your internal values while pursuing your external values you are on the road to your ideal life.
