Design for Personas

The goal of a designer is to listen, observe, understand, sympathize, empathize, synthesize, and glean insights that enable him or her to make the invisible visible.
Hillman Curtis

When we design for personas rather than designing for generic users we create a system that can be used by real users.

When we design for generic users we create a system that doesn’t work for any specific user.

If we designed a vehicle for every user of a vehicle we would end up with a vehicle that was part truck, part sports car, part SUV, and part motorcycle. Nobody would want to drive the vehicle even though it had features for everyone.
