Build Your Life Work

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honourable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

The world is becoming more and more digital and what we as individuals produce is becoming more digital

Being digital means that it can be shared easily with the world.

With advances in AI, it means that it can easily become part of the dataset that AI works with.

I believe that a path forward is for everyone to build their “life work”. Finding a pursuit where they build and refine that work into a form that can be shared. You are creating your “Life Work” as a legacy rather than as a mechanism to make money.

In the past, an example would be writing a book. With digital, the ways and the content are almost limitless.

One person’s “Life’s Work” could be cataloging the native birds in a location. Another person could be creating a card game. Another could be understanding the mechanisms of disease. Another could be determining healthy diets. The main trait is that it is a complete well thought-out work that forms a small piece of the total knowledgebase of humans.

If everyone on earth now took this approach for their lifetime, there would be 7.88 billion “Life Works” create over the next 100 years (Assuming people live to 100). That would be over 200,000 life works that would be created each and every day.

Imagine what knowledge and insights could be created.
