When implementing a new software system, the installation is just one small part of the entire roadmap.
Other milestones on the roadmap include:
- Phases of the transition between the old solution and the new solution. The phases range from big bang to smaller groupings of data or functionality where both the new solution and the old solution are being used.
- The migration of existing data into the new solution
- Training of staff in the new solution
- Change management activities to obtain buy-in for the new solution.
- Human resource changes due to positions no longer being required and or new positions required due to the new solution.
- Customization and configuration of the new solution to meet all business needs
- Building and implementing interfaces between the new solution and other existing legacy systems.
- Putting in place maintenance processes and procedures
Depending on the solution and the environment of the solution, the other milestones may require more time and effort than the implementation of the solution itself.
