Climate change, demographics, water, food, energy, global health, women's empowerment - these issues are all intertwined. We cannot look at one strand in isolation. Instead, we must examine how these strands are woven together.
Ban Ki-moon

Every issue is part of a bigger issue.

No issue can be solved without taking the larger issue into account. A change to resolve an issue may cause another issue in the bigger picture.

People are always trying to reduce issues and ignore the larger context or the larger issue.

We can’t solve global warming without taking the economy into account. Without taking the economy into account people may suffer from changes related to trying to fix the climate.

Everything is interrelated and a change in one place is going to create change in other unexpected places.

This does not mean we ignore issues, it means we look at the bigger picture and try to solve issues within the context of larger issues.

If we don’t do this then things will tend to go in circles. A change is made to fix an issue that breaks something else, so another change is made to fix what got broken which takes us back to the start.

Recognize the interconnectedness and try to fix the whole while trying to fix the issue you are focused on.

Since everything is connected, every change has consequences both for the issue and the larger issue. Depending on what your values are, you will value the outcomes differently.

Who is to say your values are more important than the next?

Issues are complicated.
