The idea of standardizing which tools to use to get a job done is backward thinking.
It is the process that should dictate the tool. Who cares if you need to use 20 different tools, each tool is unique and has certain strengths. If we are picking the tool for the process based on which tool will create the most value we will be maximizing value.
An artist doesn’t limit the number of brushes he uses to create art, he will use whichever tool creates the outcome he is looking for. Standardizing on a few brushes will would limit his creativity. The artist will have the vision of what his art will be and will choose whatever tool to create that vision.
The process then becomes the core of what we do, it is the process that is done, examined, and improved upon. It is the understanding of the process that allows a person to create better and unique value.
