Keep Vision in Mind

When a plan or strategy fails, people are tempted to assume it was the wrong vision. Plans and strategies can always be changed and improved. But vision doesn't change. Visions are simply refined with time.

As a business analyst, you always need to have a future vision in mind. The future vision is the ultimate future state you are striving towards. Even if the future state is far in the future, it is still relevant for making decisions going forward.

The path from the current state to the ideal future state is not always straightforward. Sometimes you need to take steps forward, other times you need to take steps backward.

If you don’t understand where you are ultimately going, decisions will be made that make it hard to get to the future state. For many businesses, if they are not getting to a future vision, then a competitor will.
