When designing processes to accomplish business needs the process is separate from the tools that will be used to implement the process.
The process needs to stand on its own regardless of the tools.
The process needs to completely describe all the steps for completing the business need.
When the process is implemented in a tool, there may still be parts that are done outside the tool, but those parts are still within the business process.
By understanding that the process is separate from the tools gives greater agility in changing how the business process is implemented over time as tools change.
