An outcome map is an excellent tool for seeing the cause and effect of creating new capabilities.
Start with the main or high-level capabilities or features you intend to implement. Create these on your map as circles.
For each capability think of any resultant outcomes. Create these as other circles and connect the circle back to the capability with a line.
Then for each outcome think of subsequent outcomes and map those.
After these have been mapped, brainstorm ways of proving why the lines exist. If you have joined an outcome to a capability then you need to explain how that capability created the outcome and then figure out a way of measuring.
Some ways of proving the outcome include:
- Surveys
- Quantifiable Metrics
- Anecdotal evidence
- Experience
