Agree on Facts

There are three principal means of acquiring knowledge... observation of nature, reflection, and experimentation. Observation collects facts; reflection combines them; experimentation verifies the result of that combination.
Denis Diderot

The start of any debate or discussion on an issue should start with the presentation and agreement on the facts and observations.

Oftentimes, facts and observations are entangled with interpretations. In the beginning, the focus is untangling the facts and observations from interpretations so all parties can agree on the facts.

With agreed facts and observations, both sides will have better-supported positions.

If you can’t agree on the facts and observations there is no way you can come to any kind of conclusion on the interpretations.
