I am extremely disappointed with the government officials who decided to vacation outside of the country over the holidays. I am trying to say that as nicely as possible.
We are in the midst of a pandemic, and we many lockdown measures in place. As citizens, we have been asked to keep our social interactions to members of our households, to have no social gatherings outside our households. I believe these restrictions are the right thing to do with where the pandemic is at. So for the leaders to disregard this advice to me is incomprehensible. I don’t know whether to call it arrogance, entitlement, or extreme selfishness.
As a leader, you need to buy into the overall vision. You need to understand that vision, why it is important, and the reasons for the vision.
The province had a vision for how to handle the pandemic and it was well understood by citizens like myself. There is no reason why someone part of the organization shouldn’t understand it. As a leader, if you don’t understand it, you need to do the work before you can lead.
Leading is simply being in the lead. The leaders should be the first ones to limit their social interactions. The leaders should be the first ones wearing a mask.
Leaders should be setting an example of how to act in order to create the vision. That vision is to keep the pandemic under control. That vision is to save lives. For those government officials who decided to leave the country and not provide the leadership, they are doing the opposite. They are showing how to get the pandemic to spiral out of control. They are showing how to lose lives.
When you are in a position of leadership take the time to truly understand the vision. Then takes the steps to lead everyone towards that vision.
