To create great outcomes our day-to-day focus needs to be on the steps and the process to the outcome not on the outcome. It is the constant refinement and improvement in the process that will allow us to create great outcomes.
To win a hockey game, the focus is not on scoring a goal, the focus is on playing the game and following the system. If the system is followed the score (outcome) will result. Focus on playing a good shift at a time.
A runner needs to focus on his stride and his breathing. That is the way to maximize how fast he will get to the finish line.
There are times when you need to take a step back and evaluate where you are in relation to the outcome. For some outcomes this can be weekly, for others it may be yearly.
When you are executing, focus on the process.
