Whether in business or in life, there is a saying that if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it.
This is a valuable saying because it keeps things working that are working.
What it doesn’t account for is change.
We are now living in a world that changes rapidly. What works well today may be a big detriment tomorrow.
So how do you deal with change and keep things working that are working?
The answer is that you track what is working. Determine what the best metrics are that show why it is working and track those metrics.
Those metrics will tell you when it is time to improve when it is time to stay the course, and the time when a different approach should be used.
Whether things are working well or not working well, determining metrics, tracking metrics, and reviewing metrics mean you are always learning. Metrics are what allows us to be agile and adapt to a changing world.
